We did it! #1 in NJ for Farm-to-School and recipient of both the NJ Agriculture's "Cream-of-the-Crop" and "Top Tomato" recognition!
During our Spring unit, we learned about the butterfly cycle in the PreK4 class. This was a 4 week program where we watched the caterpillars grow and eat, turned into chrysalis, and eventually turned into Painted Lady Butterflies.
The students came in every day and could not wait to check on the caterpillars to see how big and different they looked. It was such an exciting moment when all of them formed their chrysalises. Once they became butterflies, we were able to feed them sugar water and fruits (oranges, strawberries, apples, and bananas). We released them in our school garden. It has been a wonderful hands-on experience and such a joy for all of the students to see the caterpillars turning into butterflies with their own eyes.
